INCOMPAS: Stay Strong, Stay Connected. How Streaming, Internet and Network Providers are Helping during Coronavirus Crisis

WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 30, 2020) - INCOMPAS, the internet and competitive networks association, released a new tracking page today to highlight efforts by its member companies to help address the Coronavirus crisis.

INCOMPAS represents a broad range of companies, including streamers like Netflix and Amazon, internet companies like Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Twitter, and competitive broadband providers like DISH, Granite, C Spire and many more.

“To help meet the Coronavirus crisis our members are innovating and extending care to local communities, content creators and journalists reporting from the front lines, “ said Chip Pickering, CEO of INCOMPAS. “In a short time, we’ve seen our members building new telehealth virus screening apps, creating new work and learn from home solutions, expanding bandwidth and signing the FCC’s “Keep Americans Connected” Pledge. This will be a long fight, and we stand ready to help our friends, neighbors and small businesses recover.”

Some examples of actions and contributions include:

  • Amazon: $20 million research initiative, music in hospitals, grocery delivery and getting supplies to those in quarantine
  • C Spire: Built a new telehealth app to streamline virus testing, providing free wireless to Mississippi students
  • DISH: Providing no cost spectrum to boost wireless capacity
  • Facebook: Digital lesson plans and e-learning tools, donating masks and fighting misinformation, $100 million donation to support local journalism
  • Google: Helping expand search and information resource services
  • Granite: Deploying rapid response “work from home” solutions for businesses and government agencies
  • Microsoft: Supporting NGO’s, biotech research and helping eliminate bottlenecks at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)
  • Netflix: Providing emergency support to members of the creative community
  • Starry: Offering free services to customers in Public and Affordable Housing units
  • Twitter: Protecting and supporting journalists covering doctors, nurses and health providers on the front lines of COVID 19
