Q: Please tell us about your company history. When was it founded? How has the company evolved since its founding? Have your services changed? Are there key milestones in your company’s history and growth that you can highlight?

TSI was founded in December 1986 as a long distance reseller, primarily distributing Qwest and Focal local, long distance and toll free dedicated T-1 products.

In 2005, TSI became a facilities-based IXC with its own switch site at 1 Wilshire in Los Angeles, California.

In 2011, TSI initiated a multi-year transition to Voice over IP and cloud computing.

Today, TSI continues to provide the domestic U.S. call center and enterprise markets with high capacity and connectivity outbound long distance and inbound toll free service, utilizing state of the art VoIP and SDN infrastructure, hosted within its data center space and multiple cloud environments.

Q: Please tell us about company’s top executives and the work that they are doing in our industry.

Founded and managed by the CEO, Deb Ward, the company has continuously evolved since the early eighties to meet the ever-changing telecommunications landscape. The company has maintained leadership and membership positions within numerous professional trade organizations, including the first and current Chairwoman of INCOMPAS, the Marketing Research Association (MRA), the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), the Nashville Chamber of Commerce, the Professional Association for Customer Engagement (PACE), Telecom Associates and Women In The Channel (WIC).

The company's CTO, David Deutsch, has over 20 years of experience in both legacy and next generation telecommunications and is involved in several working groups in the fields of AI, cloud computing and big data.

Q: Explain your geographic reach. Where do you provide services?

TSI primarily serves customers in the US domestic marketplace, along with its extended territories.

Q: What types of services do you offer your customers?

TSI offers domestic and international long distance, local origination and toll free origination. Toll free service continues to be an expertise of TSI, including disaster recovery and RESPORG services.

Q: What is your target customer base? Please include names of prominent customers and case study details.

TSI’s target customers are multi-site enterprise; medium to large scale call centers; and regional CLEC/Wireless carriers, including triple and rural plays.

Q: What are the biggest challenges that your company faces and how is your company overcoming these challenges?

The biggest challenge includes continuing to leverage TSI’s traffic and customers within an ever increasing competitive marketplace.

Q: What are your competitive opportunities and threats?

With the heavy M&A activity of 2016, the greatest opportunity lies with organizations that are no longer able to obtain wholesale pricing and/or personalized service as tier one carriers are increasingly unable to meet the demand for live human account and network operations management.

These same marketplace factors threaten our ability to obtain product(s) with sufficient network diversity and are price competitive, from a shrinking number of wholesale suppliers.

Q: How is technology/new products and services impacting your business model?

TSI is actively leveraging cloud technologies to virtualize operations, while simultaneously increasing the geographic diversity to our customer end points. Ultimately, this will transition our business model from traditional data centers to a completely software defined product.

Q: Have you recently acquired new customers? Entered new markets? Added new services/products?

TSI has recently acquired new call center customers, specifically within the market research call center vertical. While a toll free product has always been part of the company’s core portfolio, a sales and marketing initiative to support growth objectives in the medium to large inbound toll free market has been initiated. A significant portion of TSI’s resources continues to be allocated to this strategy.

Q: Describe your relationship with INCOMPAS. How long have you been a member. Why did you decide to join the association? What are you looking to gain from your INCOMPAS membership (policy advocacy, new business, networking, education, etc)?

TSI has been a long time member of INCOMPAS and originally joined to more closely follow the advocacy issues potentially affecting the telecom space. This has provided TSI with the ability to better serve its customers. Deb Ward has been a member of various committees and is the first and current Chairwoman of the Board of Directors.
